Our founder Simon Moffatt was this week awarded the title of Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information Security.
The UK based CIISec is the “home of cyber”. They describe themselves as “…the only pure play information and cyber security institution to have been granted Royal Charter status and is dedicated to raising the standard of professionalism in information and cyber security. CIISec provide a universally accepted focal point for the information cyber security profession, it is an independent not-for-profit body governed by its members, ensuring standards of professionalism for training, qualifications, operating practices and individuals. CIISec has a growing membership that represents over 10,000 individuals in the information and cyber security industry.“
CIISec provides support to the global cyber security industry across a range of different themes from professional development and training, through to their cyber security skills framework which “is widely accepted as the de-facto standard for measuring the competency of Information and Cyber Security professionals. GCHQ/NCSC has used this framework to underpin its Certified Cyber Professional Scheme (CCP)”.
CIISec was awarded a Royal Chartership in 2018 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Fellowship is described as “the highest level of attainment in the Chartered Institute of Information Security’s (CIISec) membership levels and is there to:
- Recognise industry leaders in the information/cyber security profession.
- Meet the aspirations for recognition of achievement and contribution to the profession, within the current membership body.
- Attract those in the profession with higher levels of skills, experience, respect and attainment. “
Moffatt, who has a 20 year history in the cyber industry, specialising primarily within the identity and access management space, described the award as an honour – “To be recognised by an industry body as respected and well run as the Chartered Institute of Information Security, is a great honour. I have been fortunate to have spent my entire career in a sector I love – that has evolved and continues to evolve – into one of the most important technology areas for both the public and private sectors. I hope to continue to research, train and evangelise security best practice to a range of different community members”.
Membership of the institute is a journey – starting at an affiliate and student level. Further details can be found here.
